Job Description Summary                                                                           

Working directly under the Division Manager, the Operations Supervisor will perform estimating and dispatching duties as well as some hands-on property maintenance related tasks. The Operations Supervisor will assist with the daily operations of property maintenance for both summer and winter activities.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist in the management of Property Maintenance projects as directed by the Division Manager, keeping projects on schedule and budget
  • Assist with estimating property maintenance and landscape installation opportunities including drawing takeoffs and site measurements
  • Aid in the preparation of property maintenance as well as landscape construction proposals and pre-qualification documents
  • Sourcing and soliciting new clients for both property maintenance and landscape construction projects
  • Instruct field staff of proper horticulture practices and techniques
  • Review and prepare contract renewals and negotiations of existing contracts as required
  • Dispatch property maintenance crews on a daily basis
  • Review seasonal equipment requirements and source equipment suppliers for best pricing
  • Monitor field work on a regular basis to ensure compliance with company standards, procedures, and design
  • Attend meeting with clients, owners, potential clients, subtrades as required
  • Train employees on the safe operation of lawn tractors, trimmers, push mowers, weeding and cultivating garden beds, pruning shrubs and trees
  • Operate snow removal equipment during snow events
  • Be on call 24 hours per day, 7 days per week for snow related duties

 

Relationships

Internally, relate to General Manager, Accounting, Landscape Designers, Crew Members, Crew Leaders, and Division Manager.  This position reports directly to the Division Manager.  Externally, relate to clients, owners, vendors and subcontractors.

  • A strong understanding of horticultural techniques
  • Extensive knowledge of plant material and its development/establishment, soil conditions, and the ability to detect and identify turf and pest infestations and diseases

  • Results-oriented individual with the ability to interpret and effectively manage multiple and competing priorities and time lines
  • Able to effectively communicate with all types of staff, including laborers, technical, professional, and management
  • Able to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing

 

Employment Credentials

  • A Horticulturalist or Technician Certificate or other industry-related certificate or diploma, or in the process of obtaining is a strong asset
  • Minimum 5 years experience in scheduling and dispatching property maintenance and light construction crews
  • Minimum 5 years experience estimating for various types of property maintenance projects with contract values ranging from $5k - $1M
  • Previous experience in Winter and Summer property maintenance is an asset
  • Valid Drivers Licence with a clean abstract is required
