Innisfree House

Waterloo Region's Newest Palliative Care Hospice, Kitchener, Ontario

Innisfree House is the Region of Waterloo’s newest palliative care hospice offering comfort and care to residents as well as their families and friends. The hospice provides 10 palliative care beds, medical support and light-filled spaces for living, meeting and dining as well as a library. The building is situated in a naturalized setting on a sloping site. The change in grade elevation provided opportunity to construct a 2 storey building with exterior access and parking on both levels. The lower level features a flexible meeting room with a removable wall and practice suite to be used by nursing students, staff and board members. A new access to the site was constructed from Homer Watson Boulevard. This build was awarded 2016 GVCA Building Excellence Award – Award of Excellence & Kitchener’s Great Places Awards 2016 – Urban Design & Excellence.
