MAPLE LIBRARY & COMMUNITY CENTRE

MAPLE, ON

The Maple Community Centre, is the largest community centre owned by the City of Vaughan. The two storey building is a full-service community centre, complete with public library, a pool, arena/ice rink, fi tness areas, gymnasium, bocce courts, activity rooms, game rooms and a bowling alley. In order to provide greater accessibility and fl exibility to the space, the existing library, has been completely renovated and reduced in its size to accomodate new recreation activity spaces consisting of activity rooms, a kitchenette and a storage area. Additionally, the universal and barrier free washrooms as well as the fi tness area changerooms are also fully renovated and modernized. Upgrades to the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, security, information technol-ogy, acoustics, and life safety have revitalized the facility. Exterior improvements to the existing reading garden include accessibility upgrades, new concrete stairs and paving. Unique, leaf-shaped, shade struc-tures provide continuity of design with the interior fi nishes and creates a quiet introspective space for library patrons to enjoy a good book. This was a phased project that required maintaining access to the existing building services. Ensuring that renovation work occurs without disrupting any community centre programs was extremely important to the client.
